Getting started

Do I need to install anything?
No. FormaCAD runs in your browser. It works best in current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari.

Do I need an account?
You can try it as a guest for 5 minutes. After that you need a free account, which you can create with your email or your Google account.

How do I start drawing?
Pick a tool on the left, or type its command (for example L for line) and press Space or Enter. The prompt below the drawing tells you what to do next. Help → Keyboard shortcuts & help lists the commands.

How do I enter exact sizes?
Start typing a number while a tool is active, then press Space or Enter. You can also type coordinates such as 0,0 or 4200,3400.

Files

Where are my drawings stored?
On your own device. FormaCAD does not upload your drawing files to our servers.

How do I save and open a drawing?
Use File → Save (Ctrl+S, or ⌘S on Mac) and File → Open. Drawings are saved as .dft files.

Can I import and export other formats?
Yes. You can import DXF, PDF and images, and export to PDF, DXF and SVG. DWG files are not supported; if you have a DWG, convert it to DXF first.

I lost my drawing.
Because files live on your device, check your Downloads folder or wherever you saved it. A drawing that was never saved cannot be recovered, so save often.

Account

Is there a limit on saving or exporting?
No. You can save and export as often as you like. See Free plan for what the free plan includes.

I forgot my password.
On the sign-in window, choose Forgot password?. We will email you a code to set a new one. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder and try again.

How do I delete my account?
Open the account menu (your name at the top), then choose Delete account. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your information.

Problems

The drawing feels slow.
Very large drawings can be heavy for a browser. Close other tabs, and try Chrome or Edge. Turning off Real line width in the status bar can help.

Something did not work as expected.
Use Help → Report a bug and tell us what you did and what happened. See Contact & feedback.

Ads are missing or misplaced.
Some ad blockers and security apps change how the page looks. If the layout looks wrong, try pausing them for this site.
